Pharmacists of Uni Pharma Co., Ltd.. Wu Qianhua, Huang Junwei, Lin Liangguang

Methanol and ethylene glycol are industrial alcohols, but the general public may still come into contact with products containing a high proportion of methanol or ethylene glycol (e.g. car antifreeze, alcohol paste). In Taiwan, a methanol mortality rate of 34.4% has been recorded. These toxic alcohols are rapidly absorbed, and will be quickly metabolized into toxic acids to produce terminal organ damage, once accidental ingestion occurs, they should be immediately sent to the hospital and urgently treated appropriately, otherwise it may lead to serious sequelae and even death. This article focuses on the literature collation of clinical treatment, hoping to provide a reference treatment method for pharmacists in emergencies, so as to facilitate the first time to participate in the medical team to rescue patients.
